Taiwan University Adopts PEPID Online

School of Medicine at National Cheng Kung University licenses PEPID Emergency Physician Suite

NCKU Hospital
PEPID recently announced a licensing agreement with the College of Medicine of National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) located in southern Taiwan. The agreement will allow faculty, training physicians, and medical students at the area's largest medical school and university hospital to access PEPID’s emergency medicine resources online for decision-support information at the point-of-care.

The agreement grants National Cheng Kung University faculty and students access to PEPID™ Emergency Physician Suite (ED). The Suite contains continually updated emergency medical information, 6,500 entries in the drug database, and clinical tools such as medical calculators, dosing calculators, a drug interactions generator and referential images. FlySheet Information Services, which represents PEPID in Taiwan, helped conclude the agreement.

The College of Medicine at NCKU has eight Basic Sciences departments and 20 departments of Clinical Medicine. The College has nearly 200 teachers and offers seven graduate programs, conferring Master's and Ph.D. degrees, and an undergraduate curriculum. The university hospital’s Emergency Division includes Emergency Medicine, Emergency Surgery, Disaster Medicine, and Toxicology departments. Its ER sees an average of 200 visits per day.

To safely increase the productivity of healthcare worldwide, doctors and nurses everywhere need instant access to accurate, current medical and drug information. PEPID delivers the answers they need, wherever they are.

Agreement demonstrates the need for and the value of PEPID products on a worldwide basis.

BlackBerry

Over-the-Air Downloads for BlackBerry® Users

No longer have to sync to desktop

Great news for users of newer BlackBerry devices with MicroSD card capabilities, such as the BlackBerry® Pearl™.  You don’t have to be tethered by a sync cable to a desktop computer anymore to add new products or update your existing PEPID subscriptions.

New software components from PEPID Technology will allow users to download PEPID applications and content over-the-air (OTA) to a MicroSD card. As a result, coinciding with the upcoming release of PEPID Version 8.0, you will no longer have to sync to a desktop computer for new products and updates.  You will even be able to register PEPID products OTA.

This advanced capability is ideal for BlackBerry® Enterprise Server applications, as well as individual PEPID subscribers. Now all PEPID™ for BlackBerry® users can be more mobile and stay current wherever an over-the-air connection is available.

Daylight Saving Time Updates

This year, Daylight Saving Time starts on March 11 and changes back to standard time on November 4th. This is a change from the current ‘start/end date’ that is built into some PEPID users' devices.

Palm devices, both smartphones and handhelds, need to be updated to reflect the correct time when the new DST changes take effect. Without these Daylight Saving Time Updates, calendar events and email messages will indicate an hour off the actual time in locations that observe DST.

When the DST dates take affect, BlackBerry® devices will not update their clocks for the affected time zones unless patches for impacted BlackBerry software and third party software are applied. As a result, your BlackBerry device might not display correct time zone information for certain time periods during the year.

To get help updating the DST on your device, please visit the manufacturer’s site linked below:

Using PEPID

Conscious Sedation

Conscious Sedation is a common procedure used in most emergency departments to reduce a patient's pain and anxiety during a potentially painful or frightening procedure.  Using PEPID allows you to do a quick review of the steps before starting the sedation.

To access the Conscious Sedation Monograph, tap "C-O-N-S" into the index.  Select Conscious Sedation (Proc).

To Use:

STEP 1: Scroll down to 'Patient selection' to make sure that your patient can tolerate the procedure.

STEP 2. Scroll through the monograph to find a list of the medication combinations used for conscious sedation.

STEP 3. PEPID's integrated functionality allows you to move from the conscious sedation monograph to the drug database in order to administer an accurate dose.

STEP 4. Tap on 'Fentanyl', then 'Adult Dosing' to calculate the correct dose by entering the patient’s weight.

STEP 5. Tap the arrow icon twice on the navigation bar to return the conscious sedation monograph to finish reviewing the information on the procedure.

Many clinicians consider PEPID an invaluable asset to their practice because they can review a multitude of procedures like conscious sedation before stepping foot into the patient's room-furthering their confidence in the care they are giving their patients.
