Better Learning and Performance
Recent studies demonstrate that PEPID can be a key contributor to better education and clinical performance for student nurses.
A project at Duke University School of Nursing showed that adopting PEPID on PDAs can make significant contributions to the development of leadership skills, enhanced learning, reinforcement of core knowledge, and building student confidence. The project also found that PDAs are especially useful in clinical settings, where other resources may not be readily available.
A University of Toronto study shows that clinicians using PEPID on PDAs improved their performance by 50 percent. The clinicians who did not use PEPID showed no improvement. The researchers noted that caregivers, who used books and other traditional references, took from 10 to 15 minutes to find answers to clinical questions — when they bothered to look them up at all. Those using PEPID software found their answers in an average of 19 seconds. The study concludes that physicians who use a handheld device to access medical information improve the speed and quality of their diagnoses (Lapinsky, et al).
