Palm HotSync software installation verification
Palm Hotsync software installation verification:

First, make sure that HotSync Manager is running. If it is, then it will show up as a red and blue icon in your system tray, as shown below:

If you do not see the HotSync Manager icon in the right bottom corner of your computer, go to the Start menu and select Programs. Then look for Palm, Palm Desktop or Sony Handheld and click on HotSync Manager to activate it. Now the red and blue icon should appear in the bottom right of your screen.

Second, make sure that you are running the latest version of HotSync Manager 4.0 or greater. Otherwise, the installation will not work.

To check which version you have, right-click on the HotSync icon on your desktop and select "About". A dialog box will appear that will state your current version. If you are not running version 4.0 or higher, please download the latest version from palmOne.

Once you are sure that HotSync Manager is version 4.x and active, place your handheld in its cradle or plug it into its HotSync cable (depending on your model). If you have a cradle, simply press the HotSync button on your cradle.

If you are using a cable, run the HotSync application on your handheld. It has the same red and blue icon as the system tray icon, and by default is stored in the "System" category. In the HotSync application, tap the large HotSync icon.

The handheld will try to connect to the desktop and synchronize. A dialog should appear on your PC like the one below.

If the dialog appears and your handheld begins synchronizing, everything is working fine. Wait for the synchronization to complete before continuing.

If this does not work, please consult your handheld's manual for information on how to fix the problem. You may need to uninstall the existing version and then reinstall your Palm Desktop software from the CD that came with your handheld, or download it from palmOne. (Sony does not offer the Palm Desktop software for download.)
